03.09.2020

With September 3rd, 2020 the last provisions for the implementation of the Shareholder Rights Directive II* will come into force.

This deals with the information flow between issuers and shareholders. Issuers now have the right to request the identity of their shareholders through the custody chain, and investors are subject to new information obligations that involve technical and organizational effort. The demanding task of establishing a new level of information quality and speed across borders throughout the EEA has also posed not insignificant challenges for intermediaries (banks, central securities depositories, etc.).

OeKB CSD, as issuer CSD, is well prepared for these new tasks. The Austrian banks that hold securities accounts for their customers have also reacted to the challenges and are prepared.

OeKB CSD is the only authorized Central Securities Depository in Austria according to the EU-CSD Regulation (VO (EU) No. 909/2014). Its tasks include in particular the safekeeping, custody and settlement of securities in compliance with the highest regulatory requirements.
